James Korzelius BIG DUMB ROCK SONG 2014
4:01
I was in a rock and roll band called SoulEVER for about 9 months from March of 2007 until, uh… well… let’s say that the ending of the thing was less clear than it’s beginning. The whole experience was a Love-Child, sired by myself and my very best friend Jesse Molé. Jesse found one of the greatest drummers I have ever known, Bradley Thomas Jones, who knew and worked with a killer bassist named Scott Leslie (a monument... a master,) and together we hatched a plan to take over the world. Like all great rock and roll bands, we had fights. I caused most of them. I was arrogant (well, every wannabe rock star must be arrogant in order to succeed in one of the most arrogant businesses on Earth) and once said to Bradley, “I could poop out an album full of Big Dumb Rock Songs in a week if we were in a decent studio…” Well, Bradley... you should know that I very intentionally cleared my schedule for a week and set out to do just what I said, and THIS is the only song I wrote all week. So, as in so many other ways, I was wrong, my friend. But this is still fun to listen to. Thank you, gentlemen.
BIG DUMB ROCK SONG
Here’s some fuzzy guitar
To get things moving along…
And here are some rolling triplets
On a giant tom-tom
And, here’s the bass guitar…
Well, the bass is all you need;
Or, we could add some intentionally-pretentious
And sloppy lead.
All the boxes checked
Formulaically.
I’m not playing this song…
No, it’s playing me.
This is track number five
On my latest CD.
One through four are the ‘Hits,’ (such as they are,)
And nine through twelve are the deep, and spiritually meaningful ones for me.
But on five, six, seven, and eight,
I just need something that will keep you engaged.
So, I’m phoning this in and I’m crapping this out,
Because, it doesn’t matter what I say.
Checked my formulae
I’ve done everything
Now, it’s Chorus-time.
Clear your throat and sing:
Here’s a Big Dumb Rock Song,
It’s here and it’s gone.
Here’s a Big Dumb Rock Song
To move things along.
It’s a Big Dumb Rock Song…
Will you sing along with the
Unexpected break in the Chorus?
Here’s another half verse:
It’s sung much the same way.
But, no one cares about the melody anyway.
It’s really all about the Swagger & Sway.
All the boxes checked
Formulaically.
I’m not playing this song…
No, it’s playing me.
Here’s a Big Dumb Rock Song,
It’s here and it’s gone.
Here’s a Big Dumb Rock Song
To move things along.
It’s a Big Dumb Rock Song…
Will you sing along with the
Unexpected break in the Chorus?
